AIM delivered a comprehensive package of masonry restoration works to a historic overbridge spanning a disused railway in Greenock. The structure had suffered from long‑term weathering, stone loss, and deterioration across multiple parapets, wingwalls, and elevations, requiring skilled conservation‑led intervention.
Our specialist stonemasons carried out a wide range of repairs, including dismantling and rebuilding defective parapet sections, reinstating displaced and spalled coping stones, and completing targeted Lithomex repairs to areas of missing or damaged masonry. The team also stabilised loose or bulging stonework and restored stringer courses and voussoirs affected by spalling.
Extensive repointing was undertaken across key elevations and abutments using traditional techniques and carefully matched mortar to ensure compatibility with the original construction. All works were completed with sensitivity to the bridge’s heritage character, preserving its appearance while significantly improving structural integrity.
This project showcases AIM’s expertise in delivering high‑quality masonry repairs on historic overbridges, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern conservation materials to protect and prolong the life of disused railway infrastructure.
